The Girlfriend Experience
Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve finally included a bona fide film in the Fest. I took in a solo viewing of The Girlfriend Experience (sounds a lot better than “watched a movie about a hooker alone in a theater”) this weekend. It was good. It stars Sasha Grey in her first non-pornographic film, which every review I’ve read has been quick to point out, and hey, I’m...

Terminator Salvation
OK, ok… I’ll give it to them, I did enjoy this movie. But if I’m perfectly frank, it just scraped into the “liking” demographic. Maybe I’m a little flicked out over the past month (Wolverine, Star Trek, State of Play…), or maybe it just seems a little bland after an above-and-beyond movie like Star Trek, but Terminator Salvation just didn’t...

Adam
Added! Comes out 7/29. Looks cute- romantic comedy set in NYC with a touch of Asberger’s Syndrome. Clearly a good movie to take a lady to.
So any hot chicks out there who want to go see this with me?

Weekend of 5/29
Up comes out this weekend! So does Drag Me to Hell! I’m so excited, I don’t know which emotional fulfillment will win out - pure giddiness or nightmarish, armrest gripping terror. I’m pumped for both; Pixar has time and again proven its ability to produce incredible, visually stunning, mass-market movies while throwing the mass-market summer animated movie formula out the...

Weekend of 5/22
Oh snap, son.
This is happening this weekend, and I can’t be more excited about it. Will John Connor save the day? Will Arnold make a cameo? Has the director of Charlie’s Angels earned enough clout yet to have the general public respectfully refer to him by his fraternity nickname? We shall see.
Also, a point I want to touch on. I know this is the Funtime Summer Fun...

Well, I am a poor festival organizer. Not only did I not see any movie this weekend, but I also found out that the movie I did plan to see, The Brothers Bloom, is only playing in NYC this weekend and isn’t wide-released till 5/29. Upon further inspection, I’ve also found that a number of release dates I claimed on the original fest schedule are actually limited release dates, so from...
10 Reasons Why Johnny Cash Owns Chuck Norris →
sumfight:
Reason 4. Chuck wasn’t the first of his kind to kick ass. Johnny was the first rock star to set something on fire. While most artists only set their hotel rooms on fire, Johnny took it one step further and burned down half a national forest.

State of Play
Saw State of Play this week. It wasn’t on the official fest schedule, but my family was looking for a movie to see and it was that or 17 Again, so… . My parents are both into political thrillers, and my sister’s into Jason Bateman, so it all worked out.
And as far as political thrillers go, this movie delivers. It’s set in Washington, DC, and follows Cal McAffrey...

Star Trek
STAR TREK. WAS. AWESOME.
Wolverine may have marked the technical beginning of summer, but Star Trek got it started. I am in no way a Trekkie (I was always into Star Wars), but to love Star Trek, I didn’t need to be. Great writing, great directing, great acting, and great effects all came together in a perfect storm of greatness.
JJ Abrams is renowned for his sci fi projects and...

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
I haven’t even started this movie-film-fest-party yet and I’m already three movies behind. Time to start taking this thing seriously, huh? OK, sure.
The Long Version:
The summer movie season kicked off with Wolverine, and for a beginning-of-the-summer superhero flick, it was perfectly adequate. Certainly not going to elicit any comparisons to Iron Man or Dark Knight from last...

Weekend of 5/15
Well, Funtime’s Summer Fun Film/Flick Fest is off to a great start three weeks late. I’ve been keeping up best I can- two films a weekend is a tough undertaking. If anyone else has been keeping track, we’re now 2 films in- Star Trek and Outrage were last weekend. I only got out to see Star Trek, myself, but Outrage looks very good and if you find a theater playing it, let me...

Funtime's Summer Fun Film/Flick Fest
Every summer, I end up with a list of movies I meant to see, but never got out to the theaters for. This summer, I’m being more proactive. Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you Funtime’s Summer Fun Film/Flick Fest, my attempt to make sure I see as many of this summer’s offerings as possible. I’ve put together a calendar (HTML), and while I admit it’s ambitious,...
