Funtime’s Summer Fun Film/Flick Fest
Every summer, I end up with a list of movies I meant to see, but never got out to the theaters for. This summer, I’m being more proactive. Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you Funtime’s Summer Fun Film/Flick Fest, my attempt to make sure I see as many of this summer’s offerings as possible. I’ve put together a calendar (HTML), and while I admit it’s ambitious, and probably wildly unrealistic, I’m going to stick to it as best I can. Check it out there or the annotated version below. Also, look for previews and reviews each week for the movies I actually make it out to.
Hopefully I’ve set the bar so high now that pure shame and humiliation at the thought of failing this challenge will get me to the theaters.
5/15
The Brothers Bloom
5/16
Next Day Air
5/22
Terminator Salvation
5/23
The Girlfriend Experience
(Upon further inspection, I’ve discovered this is actually straight to DVD. So, a night off. Still looks interesting, though. Maybe I’ll have a DVD party at the end of this to catch up on all the ones I missed.)
UPDATE: Found another cool movie to take its place!
5/24
The Mutant Chronicles - Yes, it is a really stupid name. But, it’s starring John Malkovich, Ron Perlman, and Thomas Jane, so there could be something interesting here.
5/29
Up
5/30
Drag Me to Hell
Jeeeeeeesus yes Sam Raimi.
6/5
Land of the Lost
6/6
The Hangover
This looks ridiculous and I’m really excited for it.
6/12
Moon
This might be the movie I’m most excited to see this summer.
6/13
Dead Snow
Nazi zombies. Yup.
6/19
Whatever Works - There’s no trailer out for this movie yet, so check out a bunch of photos from it.
OR $9.99 - This looks really interesting, and I want to see it, but it’s only playing in NYC on this date. So we’ll see what people are into that weekend. Larry David, or claymation.
6/20
Year One
Oh this just looks silly.
6/26
Transformers 2
6/27
Fireflies in the Garden
This is one of those “films” I was talking about. Also, I will see anything with Ryan Reynolds in it. I will also see anything with Willem Dafoe in it. I will also see anything with Hayden Panettiere in her underwear in it.
7/3
Public Enemies
7/4
The Hurt Locker
This movie looks COOL.
7/10
Bruno
Niiiiiiiiiice!
7/17
The Art of Being Straight - This movie looks gaaaaaay. Really, though. It’s picking up a lot of awards and will probably be talked about come Oscar season, so I want to see it before anyone’s heard about it. Think indie music snobbery, for movies.
7/18
Food, Inc
7/24
In the Loop
7/25
Arlen Faber - This one’s throwing me a curveball. I can’t find any trailers or websites for it, just the IMDB page.
ADDED 5/28:
7/29 (midweek)
Adam
Romance, New York City, and Asberger’s Syndrome? What more could you want?
7/31
Funny People
8/1
You, the Living
Foreign films! Eeee!
8/7
GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra
I guess?
8/8
Cold Souls - Paul Giamatti plays Pauls Giamatti, a famous actor who pays to have his soul removed and freeze dried for a period of time. Complications arise when he runs afoul of a soul smuggling ring. I have no idea how anyone thought of that, but I want to watch to find out how the hell they then brought it to life.
8/14
The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard
8/15
Taking Woodstock (looks fun) or District 9 (LOOKS. AWESOME.)
8/21
Inglorious Basterds
8/22
World’s Greatest Dad
8/28
The Boat That Rocked
8/29
My Fuhrer - I’m not finding anything online for this. This NYT article is all I can find that mentions it.
9/4
Extract
9/5
Pandorum And we’ll throw in a little crappy horror film to round the whole thing out.
That’s it! At least for now. I’m sure things will change- I’ll miss a movie, or move some around, but that’s basically what I’m going to try to stick to for the summer. And you, Dear Reader, are welcome to tag along.
PS- Also, just happened upon this accidentally- Special. Came out last year, but I really want to see it, too.
