Weekend of 5/15

Well, Funtime’s Summer Fun Film/Flick Fest is off to a great start three weeks late.  I’ve been keeping up best I can- two films a weekend is a tough undertaking.  If anyone else has been keeping track, we’re now 2 films in- Star Trek and Outrage were last weekend.  I only got out to see Star Trek, myself, but Outrage looks very good and if you find a theater playing it, let me know and I’ll try to tag along.

So look here for the review to Star Trek, and as a bonus/peace offering for being late with it, I’ve included two bonus reviews.  Wolverine kicked off the summer but was a week before I came up with the idea for the fest, so it didn’t get onto the schedule.  But I did see it and recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, fun action movie to easily enjoy.  My own review is here.

And I saw State of Play last night with my family on Thursday night- it wasn’t included on the schedule, but this weekend’s movies weren’t out yet and I wasn’t about to bring my parents to see I Love You, Man (they’re PG-13 people), so State of Play it was.  Look for that extra-special bonus review here.

This weekend we’ve got The Brothers Bloom and Next Day Air.  I’m most excited for The Brothers Bloom starring Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody, and Rachel Weisz.  I like con movies a lot, especially ones that make me think/laugh, and this looks like it may be that.

Also this weekend is Next Day Air.  It’s not my priority, and I expect that if I only see one movie in the next three days, it won’t be this.  But, should I find myself watching it, I won’t be upset- I’m a big fan of Donald Faison and I especially like Mos Def in comedic roles.  It looks to be that unnamed genre of comedy that seems to be targeted mainly to black people- I wouldn’t say classic blaxploitation, but certainly a descendent of it- like Soul Plane, Barbershop, or any Tyler Perry movie ever made, but done really well.  I’m just interested to see what might come of this.

Anyway, look next week for reviews of what I see this weekend, and follow along!  See you then.

PS- Yes, Angels and Demons comes out this weekend, but don’t look here for a review of that, I’m not expecting much from it.
